Internet/Websites

If you are setting up or re-designing your website, or expanding the services offered through it, it is essential to take account of the legal issues that may apply.

Whether you are a website developer, or are arranging the re-development of your website, a suitable contract is essential to properly record the rights and obligations of each party. Problems often arise during website development projects where the scope of the project changes as the work progresses. A good contract can help to ensure that such changes are properly regulated, hopefully avoiding disputes over what was agreed, and at what price.

If you sell goods or services through your website you need to comply with a range of new regulations, including the Distance Selling Regulations and the E-commerce Regulations. Julia recently gave a talk on this subject to the Institute of Fundraising IT Special Interest Group and the notes to accompany the talk are available here.

If you are collecting names and addresses through your website you will need to comply with data protection laws.
